Chapter Update from John Lenahan, CFP®
Updated: May 18, 2018
Dear fellow FPA of Miami member,
I hope you are having a great 2018 so far.
I’m writing to share some of the outstanding progress we’ve made this year to enhance the value proposition of our local chapter. Hopefully, you’ve had an opportunity to join us for one of our many events this year, as we’ve been working hard to schedule more meaningful chapter events & networking/educational opportunities. So far, we have had very successful joint dinner events with several top professional allied organizations including The CFA Society Miami, The Association for Corporate Growth South Florida, and the Greater Miami Tax Institute. Dinners have been hosted at premier law firms of Bilzin Sumberg and Holland & Knight to complement our always dependable host of the University of Miami. I’ve personally enjoyed this variety and focus on increasing our Brickell/downtown exposure, and I hope that you have too.
Along with the dinners, earlier this year we launched our free monthly practice management breakfast series, providing a forum for members to discuss relevant financial planning topics with peers. So far, we’ve had breakfasts hosted at top firms such as Eisner Amper, RSM, and UBS - and have had deep discussions on topics such as the new U.S. tax reform impact, sustainable investing/ESG, and using life insurance death benefit to enhance a portfolio's risk adjusted returns. The breakfast program continues with our June 7th breakfast at Aon Risk Solutions, where we will discuss “14 Items to Execute for Family Safety, Security & Cyber-protection” as we continue to build on our momentum. We hope you will come join a breakfast.
You’ve also probably noticed that we’ve launched our newly re-designed FPA of Miami website (www.fpamiami.org), which has made it easier to find out what’s happening, register for events, read our blog, or find pictures from previous events. Here, you can also find just announced details for our 13th Annual Symposium, scheduled for Thursday, November 29th at the law offices of Akerman LLP at Brickell City Center. This promises to be the biggest day for financial planning practitioners in South Florida in 2018, and includes an absolutely amazing lineup of speakers & topics including Dr. David Kelly, Joe Jordan, Karen Gilmore and others. Check out the full lineup and agenda at www.fpamiami.org/symposium to learn more about what’s in store… registration will be opening soon! Also, please let us know if you know of any firms or groups that would like to partner with the FPA of Miami. We have a new Symposium Sponsor Kit that details how to get involved.
As you can see, the chapter is doing some great things. I am hopeful that we will see you engaged this year and beyond. There’s plenty of opportunities to get involved and participate in leadership or service. With that, don’t forget to register for our upcoming chapter dinner on May 29th at U.M., where we have two dynamic presentations scheduled, including our own board member Angela Moore, CFP®, CRPC®, CFEI, Founder of Modern Money Advisor whom will be presenting on Marketing and Branding for the Financial Planning Professional, as well as John Salter, CFP®, AIFA®, PhD, Principal at Evensky & Katz/Foldes Financial Group presenting a Reverse Mortgage Strategy Update – with a focus on retirement income and financial planning implications. Register now at https://www.fpamiami.com/events-1/tuesday-may-29th-university-of-miami-2.
Again, thank you for your continued membership in our organization and desire to be a part of our greater financial planning community. I hope to see you soon.
